A Peaceful Penfield Garden—August 2024
August 7 at Tin Win’s garden in Penfield, NY, was the perfect summer evening – perfect weather and a perfect spot. Tin’s garden is so peaceful and inviting. Somehow the curvy in-ground pool with its large patio creates a relaxed vacation vibe — even if we didn’t jump in — and the large raised deck (with refreshments) provided a beautiful and airy view of the bright containers and landscape below, where one can wander the paths through quite a collection of Japanese maples and other ornamental trees and shrubs, including a wide selection of hydrangeas, both H. macrophylla-types and puffy white paniculatas. It seemed like just the place to be to spend an outdoor garden evening with like-minded friends. Tin and housemate Mike’s hospitality were much appreciated, as were the delicious sausages and peppers Tin cooked for us.

Original event announcement
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 6:30-8 pm, FCGN will visit Tin Win’s garden in Penfield. We visited Tin’s garden in early September, 2022, and loved it. This year we will visit in high season.
The attractive front yard contains beds with perennials and ornamental trees and shrubs, but it hardly suggests the size and range of the back yard landscape. The back yard is huge, and Tin has divided it into several very large beds that contain numerous ornamental trees (including many different Japanese maples), hydrangeas, and perennials. It is both varied and peaceful, with its large inviting pool surrounded by comfortable seating—all in all it has a feeling of welcoming, and an owner with a flair for landscaping with his favorite plants.
